WrestleMania 39 Preview

WrestleMania 39 will be live from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles this Saturday and Sunday night, headlined by the monumental clash between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

The contest caps a two-night pay-per-view that will settle the top feuds and stories of the company's last year.

Can Rhodes defeat Reigns to win the title that has eluded his family for over 50 years – winning the WWE World Title, or will The Tribal Chief maintain his status as the Head of the Table in professional wrestling and continue his historic reign?

There are currently 13 matches scheduled for the Pay-Per-View, but there could be additional contests on the card.

Each match will be explored with these previews and predictions for this year's stacked card.

There has been official confirmation as to what matches are scheduled for Night 1 & Night 2.

Night 1 – April 1

United States Championship: Austin Theory (C) vs John Cena

John Cena will challenge Austin Theory for the United States Championship in the opening match of the thirty-ninth edition of WrestleMania, as confirmed by WWE on SmackDown last week.

Theory has mocked Cena for months and the fight has clearly been foreshadowed.

Tensions have risen between the two with Cena stating Theory is not yet at the level to even fight him, and the US Champ calling Cena ‘finished’.

Fans are unsure whether Cena will be making a long-term return or whether this is a one-off, so for that reason i believe Theory will retain.

Prediction: Austin Theory to retain the United States Championship.

Men's WrestleMania Showcase Match

Braun Strowman and Ricochet head into the match with momentum following their victory over the other teams on SmackDown.

Many would have the Street Profits as the favourites, but the WWE Universe have recently been calling for Montez Ford to be given a singles run, so the team may be splitting soon.

Alpha Academy have been suffering from their own troubles, as Otis has been involved with the Maximum Male Models, so they too may be disbanding soon.

A win is looking likely for the Viking Raiders as the Usos look like they will be dethroned by Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens in the Main Event of Night 1.

Prediction: The Viking Raiders.

Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio

Rey and Dominik Mysterio will clash in one of the most anticipated matches on the WrestleMania card.

A highly emotional match between father and son; between an iconic competitor and the future of the industry will take place on Night 1.

What began with Dominik's shocking heel turn at Clash at the Castle in September carried on through family holidays and even a prison stint for the third-generation competitor, will culminate on Saturday in SoFi Stadium.

Rey has suffered months of attacks and was adamant to not accept a match against his son, but when Dominik confronted and disrespected his mother, Rey snapped and finally attacked his son, before accepting the match.

Legado Del Fantasma will be in Rey Mysterio’s corner, whilst Judgement Day will be with Dominik ringside.

Rey will be inducted into the 2023 Hall of Fame on Night 2, so a win looks likely for the luchador.

Prediction: Rey Mysterio.

Trish Stratus, Lita and Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL

Trish Stratus, Lita and Becky Lynch will face Damage CTRL on Night 1 of WrestleMania with Lynch hoping to end a long rivalry with the heel faction.

Lita & Lynch were successful in becoming the new Women’s Tag Champs when defeating Damage CTRL on Raw recently, with the help of Trish Stratus causing a distraction for the former champions.

Infuriated by the interference, Damage CTRL challenged the trio to a 6-Women tag match at WrestleMania, which was accepted.

Heading into this one, the current champs and the legend Trish Stratus are the favourites, but rumours have suggested that Trish will betray Becky and lead to a match at SummerSlam between the two.

Prediction: Trish Stratus, Lita and Becky Lynch, followed by a Trish attack on Lynch.

Seth Rollins vs Logan Paul

Seth Rollins will face Logan Paul looking to end their 2023 rivalry on Night 1 of WrestleMania.

Logan Paul eliminated Rollins in the Royal Rumble, and cost ‘the visionary’ the United States Championship at Elimination Chamber.

The two have confronted one another for weeks with Paul getting the better of Rollins on multiple occasions.

With Paul’s contract expiring after WrestleMania, it is expected for Rollins to win.

Prediction: Seth Rollins

SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (C) vs Rhea Ripley

Charlotte Flair defends her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley in the co-main event of Night 1.

Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Royal Rumble in January and chose to pursue the SmackDown Women’s Championship rather than to challenge Bianca Belair.

There has been little build to this match, but the contest should be interesting between the two superstars.

Charlotte does have the champion’s advantage, but Rhea Ripley is the favourite heading into the match, with momentum on her side.

Prediction: Rhea Ripley.

Undisputed Tag Team Championship: The Usos (C) vs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens

The Usos are set to defend their unified tag titles against best friends Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens in the main event of Night 1.

A storyline that has lasted over a year will reach its finale at the grandest stage of them all.

Sami Zayn joined The Bloodline following WrestleMania 38 and risen to the top of the company as a fan-favourite.

He had to attack KO several times during his time with the faction, but at Royal Rumble he decided it was time to turn on Roman Reigns and struck him with a chair.

The Usos and Solo Sikoa attacked Zayn for the following weeks and KO decided to forgive his old friend and together challenged The Usos for the undisputed tag titles at WrestleMania.

It seems that the historic reign of the Usos will be broken in Los Angeles and Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens will be the ones to dethrone them.

Prediction: Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens.

Night 2 – April 2

Brock Lesnar vs Omos

Brock Lesnar will face Omos in the opening match of Night 2 of WrestleMania.

The odds are against The Beast, with Omos having MVP in his corner and potentially the Hurt Business.

Omos is carrying all of the momentum heading into the match knocking off Brock every time they have come face-to-face.

There may be an interference from MVP or the Hurt Business which could help The Nigerian Giant secure the victory.

Prediction: Omos

Women’s WrestleMania Showcase Match

The women's Four-Way tag match features Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez, Natalya & Shotzi, Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green, and Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, with the winner earning a potential shot at the Women’s Tag Titles.

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez head into the match with momentum following their victory over the other teams on SmackDown.

Natalya & Shotzi along with Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green look like placeholders in the match and aren’t real contenders to win, but a shock could be on the cards.

A win is looking likely for the Rousey & Baszler as Lita & Becky Lynch are the current champions, with the match potentially coming at Backlash.

Prediction: Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler.

Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (C) vs Drew McIntyre vs Sheamus

Intercontinental Champion Gunther defends his title in a triple threat against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.

Gunther has been on a dominant run as Intercontinental Champion since winning the title on June 10, 2022, beating Sheamus on numerous occasions.

Sheamus has never won the IC Championship in his career and if he wins on Sunday night, he will become a grand slam champion.

Drew McIntyre won the title back in 2009 but has claimed his reign was ‘too early in his career’.

With a potential interference from the Brawling Brutes and Imperium, the favourite would be the champion, but this could go either way.

Prediction: Gunther retains the Intercontinental Championship.

Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (C) vs Asuka

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will defend her championship against Asuka on Sunday night.

Bianca Belair has also been on a dominant run as the champion but will be put to the test when she faces a re-invented Asuka.

The challenger earned her spot at the championship by winning the Women’s Elimination Chamber back in February.

There hasn’t been a great build for this match, but the contest should be one of the best on the card if executed properly.

Prediction: Bianca Belair retains the Raw Women’s Championship.

Hell in a Cell: Edge vs “The Demon” Finn Balor

Edge and Finn Balor will face each other inside of the Hell in a Cell.

Edge appears to be going back to his ‘brood’ character and has told Balor to bring back ‘The Demon’.

Edge created The Judgement Day in 2022, but Finn Balor replaced him as the leader shortly after.

The Mysterios have also played a prominent role in the storyline, with Rey often teaming with Edge and Dominik joining the Judgement Day after betraying his father and ‘The Rated R Superstar’ at Clash at the Castle.

There will almost certainly be an interference in this match from Judgement Day, and rumours have hinted that Edge may have some backup from his past in Christian.

This match will co-main event night 2 and should be an interesting end to a heated rivalry between the two.

Prediction: Finn Balor.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (C) vs Cody Rhodes

The undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will defend both of his titles against Cody Rhodes in the headline fight of the two nights.

The champion has problems of his own regarding The Bloodline and the faction appear to be collapsing.

‘The American Nightmare’ is hoping to end the historic reign in Hollywood but will need to be wary of any interference from the Bloodline.

The Tribal Chief has often relied on his family to help him retain his titles over the past few years, so any interference would be likely.

Rhodes is hoping to ‘finish the story’ and finally become WWE Champion, but this would be the hardest test he has ever faced in the company.

The challenger enters the match as the favourite, but Reigns has always found a way to retain his championships.

Will Reigns’ historic run as Universal Champion finally end at WrestleMania, or will Rhodes fall in line?

Prediction: Roman Reigns retains the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

WrestleMania 39 is available to watch on the WWE Network or via BT Sport Box Office from 1am.
