Williams Racing unveiled their livery for the 2023 season on 6th February.
The new livery hasn’t altered much from their 2022 car, but the main changes with
the FW45 are the sponsors. The team announced a partnership with Gulf oil for the new season and beyond.
Matthew Savage, chairman of the board at Williams Racing, said, “I am incredibly excited about this partnership between Williams Racing and Gulf, a renowned and trusted global brand, who have put their trust in us as a long-term partner.”
In addition to the new sponsor, Williams have also welcomed new faces to their crew this season, including a new team principal, James Vowles. Vowles was the former chief strategist at Mercedes-AMG Petronas, who he had worked with since 2010. The 43-year-old will begin a new chapter at Williams Racing on 20th February.
Williams have also introduced a new driver for the upcoming season, Logan Sargeant. It will be the 22-year-old’s rookie season in Formula One, replacing Nicholas Latifi, who will not have a seat on the 2023 F1 grid. In the 2022 season, Sargeant became the first driver from the United States to win a Formula 2 race, his victory coming in the British Grand Prix.
“I’m super motivated and we’ve put a lot of hard work in. The car is looking amazing, and it shows the huge effort the team has put in the off season, so I’m looking forward to getting started,” said the 22-year-old.
Alex Albon will partner Sargeant in the other Williams seat, looking to better his performance in the 2022 season. The 26-year-old scored four points last season, and finished 19th in the driver’s standings, ahead of his teammate Nicholas Latifi by two points.
The driver said: “I’m really excited to be starting back for another year with the team.”
The team will be aiming to finish higher than they have in recent years. In the past five seasons, Williams have placed bottom three times. Last season the team finished on a total of eight points, with Alpha Tauri being ninth – 27 points ahead. They will certainly be aiming to close the gap and with two young drivers, can they be a resurged team and have a successful season?
The 2023 FIA Formula One season gets underway on 5th March with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
