The build to Crown Jewel continued, a contract signing took place, a new match was added to the card, and several attacks took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
LA Knight vs Roman Reigns Contract Signing
Roman Reigns opened the show shortly before his music was cut and interrupted by LA Knight making his entrance to the ring. The two eventually completed their contract signing as tensions arisen ahead of their title match at Crown Jewel next Saturday. It took little-to-no time for the inevitable brawl to break out with Knight gaining momentum, causing Jimmy Uso to provide assistance for “The Tribal Chief”. As Reigns escaped from the ring, “The Megastar” put Jimmy Uso through a table in the centre of the ring, making a strong statement ahead of the biggest match of his career.
This feud seems like a chance to experiment with Knight and evaluate whether he is strong enough to regularly compete with the top stars in the company. LA Knight continued to showcase his natural promo energy and appeared to get the better of Roman Reigns on the night, but will that remain the case come next Saturday in Saudi Arabia…
Street Profits defeat L.W.O.
The Street Profits now have new theme music to match their new heel persona, since joining Bobby Lashley recently.
It was a back-and-forth match with both teams putting on a show, but the talking point from it was when Rey Mysterio was attacked backstage with a cheap shot from Logan Paul. This prompted Santos Escobar to ask Carlito to help “The Luchador” while he continued the match alone in a 2 on 1 handicap. Carlito ran to the back and Escobar had walked into a loss with the Street Profits hitting their new finisher “The Revelation”.
Following a commercial break, Logan Paul was caught backstage and bumped into Kevin Owens where the two exchanged in a quick conversation, potentially foreshadowing a future feud between the two of them.
We also saw two matches made official by new SmackDown General Manager, Nick Aldis: Dragon Lee vs Cedric Alexander, and Shotzi vs Chelsea Green.
Shotzi defeats Chelsea Green
Shotzi and Chelsea Green were given limited time to put on an entertaining match but done well with their allotted slot time.
But the match was used more to hype up the duo of Piper Niven and Chelsea Green vs Jacy Jayne & Thea Hail next week on NXT for the Tag Team Championships.
Ultimately, Chelsea was celebrating a little early and Shotzi caught her with a roll-up pinfall victory.
Following the match, it was also revealed that Natalya will take on Chelsea Green in a Trick-Or-Street Fight on Monday Night Raw next week.
John Cena attacked by Solo Sikoa
John Cena made his usual entrance to the ring, but something felt a little off when his music stopped. Cena cut a great promo, where he questioned whether he still had it as a wrestler. The crowd chanted “You’ve still got it!” to which he responded: “Do I?”, hinting that his career may be up very soon.
He then called his match with Solo Sikoa at Crown Jewel a “Must Win” before being interrupted by Paul Heyman. The two faced off in the ring with Heyman labelling Cena as “the greatest communicator in WWE history”. Moments after, Solo Sikoa ambushed the 16x World Champion and then landed a Samoan Spike to the throat of the so-called “Goat”.
Solo looks like a star and this match will give him chance to show what he is made of. A loss would not damage his reputation badly, but a win would make a statement to the other superstars on the roster, alternatively for Cena this is a must win match as he has not won a singles-match for over 5 years – incredible for someone who WWE have themselves labelled “The Greatest of All Time” …
Dragon Lee defeats Cedric Alexander
Dragon Lee vs Cedric Alexander was another match which wasn’t given much showtime due to a commercial break, but from what was shown the two had strong in-ring chemistry. In this case, Lee was able to take victory with an impressive, inverted bulldog sequence.
Bianca Belair Promo
After making her return to WWE last Friday, Bianca Belair revealed her emotions during her recovery time, announcing she was vengeful of Damage CTRL taking her out of action for a couple of months and wants to return the favour by taking their most prized possession – The Women’s Championship. In her promo, “The EST” confirmed that she will challenge Iyo Sky for the title at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia November 4.
LA Knight defeats Jimmy Uso
This match was made official earlier in the show after Jimmy had been put through the table. Roman requested for the match as he wanted Jimmy to take care of Knight ahead of his showdown. Instantly after the match had begun the crowd began to chant: “Jimmy sucks! And “Jey is better!” towards Jimmy. The match itself was rather slow and the crowd felt flat until a section started a “This Is Awesome!” chant from out of nowhere.
Jimmy hit the Uso Splash, but Knight was able to break the pinfall at the last moment, and shortly after landed his signature BFT finisher to secure the victory. Whilst celebrating his win, Knight climbed onto the middle turnbuckle and Roman Reigns attempted a sneak attack on him, to no avail. “The Head of The Table” missed Knight and connected with the ring post, before “The Megastar” laid out Roman Reigns with the BFT to continue his momentum.
SmackDown will return next week, and the following segments have been scheduled for the November 3 episode:
- Rey Mysterio & Logan Paul: United States Championship Weigh-In
- Bianca Belair vs Bayley
