Jake Bayliss: Ultimately, I would say this season was a success despite the two final losses

Solihull Moors recently suffered a Play-Off Final loss where they had the chance to be promoted to EFL League Two but were beaten on penalties by Bromley, and another in the FA Trophy Final where they again went on to lose the match in a penalty shoot-out, this time against Gateshead. Both games took place at Wembley Stadium, but Andy Whing’s side unfortunately fell short on both occasions.

Following the most recent defeat to Gateshead in the FA Trophy Final, Jake Bayliss, a Solihull Moors fan gave his assessment of the two matches.

He said: “Ultimately, I would say this season was a success despite the two final losses, especially after the disappointing 15th place finish last year.

“[Solihull] Moors bounced back with a huge unbeaten run at the start of the season, helping us secure the playoff final for the second time in three years, where we’ve played some really good football.”

When commenting on the fan reaction from the club’s season, he said: “I think all fans were disappointed in the two results as they knew we could, and probably should have won both games.

“However, I believe the majority of fans are also very proud of how the team played and how much of an improvement we’ve made compared to the catastrophe last year.”

Jake also offered his opinion on the upcoming summer window and next season’s ambitions.

He said: “Coming into the summer I think Moors have a real challenge on their hands, with a number of key players attracting interest from both National League and EFL sides.

“The main players already being Joe Sbarra (already gone), James Clarke, Callum Maycock and Jamey Osborne, so the club will need to recruit well if the players I have mentioned do indeed leave.

“Regarding next season, I think the team have what it takes to get promoted, whether that is through the play-offs or outright champions. The window is vital to the season, so we shall see.”
